Help Erick Protect the Amazon Through Education at EARTH University!

Hi, my name is Erick Vargas, and I’m from Puerto Maldonado in the Madre de Dios region of Peru. My home, a part of the Amazon rainforest, is being devastated by illegal mining, logging, and the expansion of monoculture plantations. These actions threaten not only the forest but also the communities and wildlife that depend on it.

From a young age, I’ve been passionate about protecting the rainforest, supporting my community, and saving the animals being displaced by deforestation. I’ve always stayed true to my principles, even refusing jobs in destructive industries like mining, despite the financial struggles.

To make a difference, I applied to EARTH University in Costa Rica, the world’s leading institution in agronomy and sustainable agriculture. I was thrilled to be accepted after nearly a year-long application process! EARTH University offers world-class education and hands-on training in sustainable farming practices that can help me bring real solutions back to my community—showing that we can protect the rainforest while building a sustainable and thriving local economy.

EARTH University has generously awarded me a 70% scholarship, but I still need to cover the remaining 30% of my tuition and living expenses. This amounts to $10,000 per year for four years—a total of $40,000. Unfortunately, I cannot afford this cost, but I cannot let this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity slip away.

I am committed to working while studying at EARTH University to help cover part of my expenses. I plan to take on jobs during my schooling in Costa Rica, but I still need your support to secure the funding necessary to start this journey and focus on my education while I establish myself there.

Hola, mi nombre es Erick Vargas y soy de Puerto Maldonado, en la región de Madre de Dios, Perú. Mi hogar, una parte vital de la Amazonía, está siendo devastado por la minería ilegal, la tala indiscriminada y la expansión de monocultivos. Estas actividades no solo amenazan el bosque, sino también a las comunidades y a la vida silvestre que dependen de él.

Desde muy joven, siempre he tenido claros mis objetivos: proteger el bosque que nos rodea, apoyar a mi comunidad y salvar a los animales desplazados por la deforestación. Siempre me he mantenido fiel a mis principios, incluso rechazando trabajos en industrias destructivas como la minería, a pesar de las dificultades económicas.

Para marcar la diferencia, apliqué a la Universidad EARTH en Costa Rica, la mejor institución del mundo en agronomía y agricultura sostenible. ¡Después de casi un año de proceso, recibí la noticia que tanto esperaba: fui aceptado! La Universidad EARTH ofrece una educación de clase mundial y formación práctica en prácticas agrícolas sostenibles que me permitirán traer soluciones reales a mi comunidad. Quiero demostrar que podemos proteger la Amazonía y, al mismo tiempo, construir una economía local sostenible y próspera.

La universidad ha sido muy generosa al otorgarme una beca del 70%, pero debo cubrir el 30% restante de los costos. Lamentablemente, no tengo los recursos para cubrir este monto, pero no puedo dejar pasar esta oportunidad única en la vida.
