Help Erika Escape a Moldy Apartment!

My dear friend Erika urgently needs to move apartments… so I’m reaching out to ask for your help!

Erika recently moved into an apartment in Chicago, only to discover a serious black mold issue in the unit.

This is especially concerning as Erika has been diagnosed with Lyme disease and additional auto-immune concerns and needs a safe environment in which to heal. As you can imagine - living in a home with mold presents a very real and urgent danger to her health and overall quality of life.

The costs associated with relocating to a mold-free environment beyond her current financial means - so it’s time for the community to get involved! We love Erika and it’s our turn to turn a painful, challenging situation into one of celebration and support.

I’m starting this fund with the desire to see Erika be able to move out of this unhealthy environment and into a safe, healing and mold-free home.

Update: As of 8/23/24, the situation has escalated.

Despite Erika’s requests, the Landlord has denied responsibility in remedying the mold issue and is now falsely accusing Erika of causing damage to the apartment and threatening legal action.

Goals of fund:

1. Ensure Erika can relocate to a safe home, and

2. Cover a minimum of legal fees to keep Erika protected from further litigation.

Breakdown of Funds:

1. Moving Expenses: Movers/moving truck - $1,300

2. Deposit and Rent: Move-in fee for new apartment after losing the initial move-in fee for the moldy apartment, help to cover rent for new apartment while Erika waits to start her new job - $1500

3. Legal fees - $600

4. Cleaning and Replacement Costs: Cleaning furniture that has been in the apartment - $100

UPDATE (8/27): We are so close to the finish line! If we do go over, any extra funds will go to cover some bills/essentials to give Erika a little extra breathing room as she moves into her new home & waits to start her new job.
