Help Esme Stay Close to Chris in Hospital
Donation protected
My name is Esme Weijun Wang and I'm an author, speaker, and teacher. My husband, Chris, was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome last year, which is a form of bone marrow cancer normally seen in people in their 60s or 70s. Through several months, he received chemo, various treatments, and through incredibly good fortune, a bone marrow transplant.
However, his body is not responding well to the transplant. He is currently in the hospital with a white blood cell count of .2 (the lowest number suitable is considered to be 4) and a neutrophil count of 0 (neutrophils are the cells that fight infection). Opportunistic infections, including a blood infection and a skin infection, have created a chaos of medical problems that mean Chris has been in the hospital now for over a week.
I used to travel an hour each way to come to the hospital every day. As you may know, I am chronically ill, with fibromyalgia and POTS as my primary physical issues. To make our lives easier, I am staying at a hotel and an Airbnb close to the hospital (with our dog Daphne), traveling every day to see him, and managing life as best as I can.
We're hoping to raise $5000 to help fund my lodging during this indefinite period of hospitalization. I've already booked a hotel and an Airbnb. Any kind of help would help greatly.
How do I end this? I'm so grateful to all of you. I'm grateful to Stanford Hospital and their Bone Marrow Transplant unit. And I'm grateful to my husband, who continues to fight.
UPDATE: Oh my God, we made it!!!!!! Any excess donations will go to medical expenses, travel costs, and help when he finally comes home. We are so incredibly grateful to you all. Thank you to our community for all of the support. ❤️
