Help Eugenia "Yoshi" Play at the U24 World Championships!

Donation protected
Hi! My name is Eugenia Garza, better known as “Yoshi", and I was recently selected to play for Team USA on the U24 Women’s team at the World Flying Disc Federation World U-24 Ultimate Championships, which will be held in Logroño, Spain, June 21-28, 2025. It is a dream come true to have the opportunity to represent the United States on the international stage, and I am already so thankful to the frisbee community and everyone who’s been a part of my journey so far. Being selected is a dream, but I face significant financial barriers to making it come true, especially as a high-level multi-sport athlete. Each player is responsible for their expenses, which include flights, hotel, food, ground transportation, and player dues for the World Championships and two training camps.

Here’s the breakdown that was provided to players:

National Team Costs
• 2025 USAU Membership Dues $70
• Housing/Fields/Food (US Training Weekend) $300
• Transportation to US Training Weekend $0 - 400
• US Team Coaching and Medical $600 - 800
• Tournament Player Fee $400
• Housing/Fields/Food (Training Camp) $600 - 800
• Housing/Food (Tournament) $700 - 800
• Transportation to/from TC/Worlds (flight, bus) $1,600 - 1,900
• Additional food/snacks $100
• Souvenirs (optional - discs, apparel, etc.) $100
APPROX. TOTAL $4,470 - 5,670

About me:
I grew up in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, and moved to the US when I was 12 with my mom. A few years later, I started playing frisbee in 2018 as a freshman at Eden Prairie High School. Initially, it was just a fun, low-commitment sport I could play to keep busy and make new friends, but I quickly fell in love with it and decided to give it my full dedication. Since then, I’ve been fortunate enough to play youth club with Minnesota Superior, college with the University of Minnesota Matrix, and club with Minnesota Star Power and Minneapolis Pop. I’ve played in other local leagues and have gotten to play in showcases with Color of Ultimate, which have expanded my feeling of community and belonging so much more than I thought was possible. Getting to represent the U.S. is a massive feat representing not just my frisbee career, but the personal journey I’ve been on since moving to this country.

I am also in my fourth year of coaching frisbee! I am entering my fourth season with the Benilde St. Margaret’s high school girls' frisbee teams, and my second with Minnesota Superior U20 Mixed. I'm proud to have helped Benilde win a Division 2 State Championship in 2024 and reach top 5 placements at the MN State High School Championships in Division 1. With MN Superior, I helped coach the team to a 2nd place finish at the Youth Club Championships in Colorado last summer! I am lucky to be a part of many incredible players’ careers. Seeing them grow as people and players has been one of the biggest joys of my frisbee career. I try my hardest to be a good role model for young players on and off the field, and playing with Team USA is another opportunity to do so.

When I’m not playing (or coaching) frisbee, I enjoy reading, sudokus, and figure skating! I’ve been skating since I was 3 and have been on the Mexican National Team since I was 15. I’ve won a championship and multiple other national medals and won Mexico’s first international gold in any figure skating discipline in 2023. Competing internationally in skating has brought me so many friendships and cool experiences, and I hope competing internationally in frisbee does the same.

I wouldn’t be the person and player I am today without the support from my family, friends, and community. I am forever thankful to my mom and every teammate, coach, mentor, and friend for believing in me. I hope to make everyone proud this summer, and will keep you updated on my National Team experience!

Thanks for taking the time to read about me, any donation or share helps!
