Help the Alzaanin family survive in Gaza

In March 2023, we met the Alzaanin family in Gaza. They invited us to their beautiful home in Beit Hanoun and hosted us with incredible kindness and generosity. Jamila, a mother of three, prepared a delicious meal with khoubeizeh from her garden, and the kids – Ahmad, Mohammed and Ronda - showed us the family's citrus groves and hung a wicker birdhouse in one of their lemon trees.

Since October, the Alzaanin family has endured relentless Israeli bombardments that have destroyed their home, their orchards and obliterated Gaza. Displaced eight times over the past months, they have witnessed unimaginable suffering and destruction.

In August, Jamila's husband Ramz had a stroke. It affected his left arm and left leg, but he has been unable to get adequate medical attention.

The family can no longer bear the inhumane conditions in the refugee camps full of sewage where diseases are spreading quickly, the lack of medical treatment, food, clean water or basic needs, and the constant threat of death as Israel continues its genocidal attack on Gaza.

Desperate for safety, they are trying to escape the bombs and devastation and to go to a place where the children can continue their studies.

As Gazans cannot access GoFundMe campaigns themselves, the family reached out to ask for help to fundraise to help them with their basic expenses and to get them out of Gaza.

Before May, the only way out of Gaza was to pay exorbitant "coordination" fees to the Egyptian agency Hala, which charged approximately $5000 for adults and $2500 for children. But since Israeli forces invaded Rafah and closed the land crossing with Egypt, Palestinians haven’t been allowed to pass through. It is uncertain when the crossing will open again, but the family is still fundraising to pay the coordination fees, hoping they will be able to leave when the border opens again.

The family of five—Jamila, her husband Ramz, and their children Ahmad (17), Mohammed (16), and Ronda (13)—need about $25,000 to cover these fees and temporarily relocate to Egypt.

If the family is unable to leave Gaza, the donations will be used to support the family's basic needs and their attempts to rebuild their lives after so much devastation.

Any donation, no matter how small, will give the family a glimmer of hope in all this darkness.

The funds will be received by HuBB - Humans Before Borders, a collective based in Portugal, and transferred to the Alzaanin family.
