FAIR Farms Gambia is a community-based research organization in The Gambia, working to solve:
- Undernutrition
- Poverty
- Inequality
- Food Sovereignty
- Our Climate Crisis
By modeling African agro-farming systems - environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable - at our demonstration and research farm in the Gambia.
On our farm we grew:
- organic vegetables
- fruit trees - orange, papaya, banana, avocado
- silvopasture - mosaics of trees in livestock pasture, a climate change resiliency strategy reducing heat stress in animals (& people), and produces additional sale-able products (fruit, medicines, wood, teas)
- seed and tree nursery
- livestock fodder - native grass cultivations, pannicum maximum, alfalfa, corn, and others
- rabbits
- goats for meat and milk
- composted livestock manure as fertilizers
We need you to help us purchase land to preserve as farm land through FAIR Farms Gambia. All proceeds through this campaign support us buying a new farm in The Gambia.
We are fortunate to have the continued support - in funding and sharing of ideas and resources - with our long time collaborator, Rockflower Partners Inc, a global venture philanthropy fund. Rockflower's Seed to Canopy funding model demonstrates their understanding and knowledge that grassroots community organizations and social enterprises such as FAIR Farms Gambia need different levels of funding at various stages of their respective journeys. We are so proud to now be in the second growth phase of funding " Roots and Shoots" with a commitment of $15,000 which will match 1:1 for every additional dollar we raise.
We've welcomed over 100 visitors on our previous farm and need your help to grow even bigger by making the biggest sustainability improvement we can -- owning our own land.
- Land ownership is a critical farming issue, especially for the marginalized farmers around the world.
- A reminder, too, that indigenous peoples steward over 80% of the worlds' biodiversity. Help us showcase those practices in The Gambia as we collectively fight the climate crisis.
