Help families displaced by the war in Ukraine
Donation protected
Here in San Diego, at the border between Mexico and the USA, we are providing near-term humanitarian assistance to refugees from the war in Ukraine as they arrive in Tijuana.
Families arrive in Tijuana scared and have many questions. Many do not speak English or Spanish and often their phones do not work, as there is no wi-fi. The border crossing can be hours long and the process of entry is rather opaque.
Furthermore, non-Ukrainian refugees are not currently being allowed into the USA, so require assistance inside of Mexico.
It's still early and things change quickly so our help is very much on a case-by-case basis and we're still learning a lot. Overall, we are:
- Helping families at the airport find the immigration area (many miles away) and explaining the process to them in their native language from the lawyers and volunteers
- Helping families coordinate meeting times and places with their families on the US side of the border
- Providing food and water to families at the border
- Driving families to temporary housing in the US
- Paying for housing for families in need in the US
- Providing housing and money for food to those who cannot cross into the USA
- Paying for housing for families in need who are not allowed to cross into the US
Your donations will help support these efforts as well as help us expand housing and assistance to these families.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for supporting our efforts. Every dollar counts and will go a long way. Together we are stronger.
