Help Families in Tonga Volcano Tsunami
Donation protected
Hi there, Mālō e lelei!
We are the Tonga Friendly Islands Community of South Australia Incorporated.
We're helping our people in Tonga who are impacted by the effects of the recent subsea volcano eruptions and the subsequent tsunami.
Telecommunication outage as a result of the atmospheric ash, floods and seabed movements mean that Tonga has been inaccessible via telephone, mobile, internet, banking and money transfer since Saturday afternoon 15th.
The entire country is covered in volcano ash which is affecting their food crops and supply right now, worsening in the next few days, weeks and months. Drinking water shortage is an immediate concern. People have lost their homes and livelihood. Our combined small efforts with yours will help them.
We are asking families and friends here to help us achieve our goal of AUD100,000 to help villages in Tonga. Every little bit will help. We're grateful for your help and support for Tonga.
The main emergencies right now are food, water and shelter. Then rebuilding support after that.
As of tonight, 17 January 2022, Tonga is still out of contact with the rest of the world. I'm pretty sure those overseas call their families several times in the hour, hoping for loved ones to answer. Its not an easy situation, but we're monitoring things and will bring updates here as they arrive.
Thank you so much for Your support in whatever capacity. It is much appreciated.
Stay safe.
