Help Family Travel for Autistic Teen's Education
Donation protected
Joseph is an autistic teen in Washington State who has been warehoused in a hospital for the past 17 months waiting for a residential school placement. Today Joseph was scheduled to be taking medical air transport to the East Coast where his new school is located. However, at the very last moment, the medical air transport was abruptly canceled. A different medical air transport will need to be arranged for as soon as possible, but consequently, his parents have been left scrambling to change their own airline, hotel, and rental car reservations they had made to get Joseph settled into his new school.
Not all these reservations are changeable and/or refundable at the last minute, and to be completely frank, this family is financially tapped out from the fuel cost of traveling 40+ miles each way to the hospital 2-3 times a week since September of 2021. They have exhausted their personal resources continually fighting for their son’s rights, and at this point, they need our support.
Anything will help, but I am hoping we can come together and rally behind this family. If we could each donate $5 (less than the cost of a Starbucks drink), it would only take 600 of us to reach this urgent fundraising goal. Personally, I think about what it would be like if it were my child in this situation. How would I cope? How would I find the funds to travel back and forth across the county multiple times each year? How many years would this placement last?
Please donate to this well-deserving family. They have been through the wringer as there are few systems supports available in these situations. Thank you in advance for your contributions – they are appreciated more than you will ever know!
