Help Our Neighbor Who Lost Everything in a Fire
Update: 08/11/2020
Hello everyone! I just wanted to reach out to folks and send a huge thank you! Rosalba, Teodora, and Alison have all settled into their new apartment thanks to everyone's generosity. In addition to raising over $10,000, many of our generous neighbors also dropped off clothing and household items to help them resettle.
We would also like to thank Block Club for promoting this fundraiser and helping us reach our goal.
In these extremely difficult times, the outpouring of support for our neighbor was a brilliant sign of hope and solidarity. Having reached our goal, we will be closing out this fundraiser.
If anyone would like to continue contributing to mutual aid networks in our area, please consider donating to the Albany Park Mutual Aid and the Irving Park Mutual Aid.

==================
Early Saturday morning, Jul 11, our neighbors - two women and a 10-year old girl - lost everything to a fire.
It seems it began from a power line that fell and hit a metal fence in their backyard. The current jumped to the circuit-breaker, which exploded, causing the fire to start in the basement unit.
Thankfully, everyone remained uninjured. However, the material loss - most prominently a home - is devastating in an already financially strained time, in the middle of a pandemic.
We are working as neighbors, as Chicagoans, and as a broader community to support these folks. In this economic climate, it is going to be very challenging to find a comparably affordable place, so any financial support would go a long way.
If you are in a position to do so, please help them recover from this misfortune.
