Help Feed Juluchuca Families During COVID
Donation protected
Juluchuca is a community of about 500 people located on the coastal highway from Zihuatanejo to Acapulco. Like communities around the world, Juluchuca and its neighboring villages have been seriously impacted by the COVID-19 crisis.
With government mandated "stay at home" orders in place, many local businesses have been forced to shut down. This includes the coconut sweets factories and the tiendas along the highway. Many families who work in tourism have also been left without jobs.
With no unemployment insurance, families facing income insecurity are struggling to get by during this hard time. With the support of Playa Viva's international community, we are hoping to raise enough funds to buy food baskets to support families in need both in Juluchuca and the neighboring villages in the mountains.
Each food basket costs $40USD and includes nonperishable items, such as rice, beans, condensed milk, sugar, coffee, cereal and cooking oil. There is enough of each item in the basket to feed a family of four for one month. And with the addition of products coming off our permaculture farm, such as eggs, fresh greens, tomatoes, and eggplant, we will bolster the dispensas for these hard times.
Thank you for you support in making sure our communities stay strong, positive and healthy.
