Help Fernanda to get surgery after breast cancer

After facing the arduous treatment against an aggressive type of breast cancer for almost a year, I received confirmation in May of this year that my health insurance will not cover my breast reconstructive surgery. The news made me very sad because I was out of work throughout the treatment due to the very low immunity and insurance help would be essential at this time. I won the battle against cancer, with the support and prayers of family, friends and even unknown angels, but I don’t have the emotional and financial structure to face a legal battle against a large health corporation in the United States.
Even those who have never had cancer or experienced cancer alongside a family member or friend know how much this disease and the long treatment can affect a person’s physical, emotional and mental structure (not to mention the financial part). Hair loss and the removal of a part of the body that represents femininity also profoundly affect a woman's self-esteem and self-confidence, in the case of breast cancer. So, to deny breast reconstruction surgery is to completely disregard the battles fought by this surviving woman.
It’s not easy to expose our vulnerabilities and let go of pride, but the truth is, I need you to once again hold my hand and help me get this surgery. The expenses for a surgeon, hospital, anesthetist, staff and medical equipment would be very expensive here in the United States (about 30 thousand dollars). For this reason, having the surgery in my home country, Brazil, would be a more affordable option as the monetary difference allows for the same procedure to be performed for around 5 thousand dollars.
I know that surviving cancer and having the chance to see my little son grow up are already great blessings in my life, but rebuilding the part of me affected by the disease is giving me the chance to look in the mirror and recognize myself without the stigma attached to breast cancer. That’s why I started this GoFundMe motivated by dear friends and the unshakable faith that kind hearts can make dreams and miracles come true. Any help is greatly appreciated and will be used towards the medical bills for the surgery which is scheduled to take place in the second half of January 2024. Após enfrentar o árduo tratamento contra um tipo de câncer de mama agressivo por quase um ano, recebi em maio deste ano a confirmação de que meu seguro de saúde não irá cobrir a minha cirurgia de reconstrução mamária. A notícia me deixou muito triste pois fiquei sem trabalhar ao longo do tratamento pela baixíssima imunidade e a ajuda do seguro seria fundamental neste momento. Venci a batalha do câncer, com a suporte e orações de familiares, amigos e até mesmo de anjos desconhecidos, mas não tenho estrutura emocional e financeira para enfrentar uma batalha judicial contra uma grande corporação de saúde nos Estados Unidos.
Mesmo quem nunca tenha tido um câncer ou vivenciado um câncer ao lado de um familiar ou amigo sabe o quanto essa doença e o longo tratamento podem abalar a estrutura física, emocional e mental de uma pessoa (sem contar a parte financeira). A queda do cabelo e a retirada de uma parte do corpo que representa a feminilidade afetam profundamente também a autoestima e a autoconfiança de uma mulher, no caso do câncer de mama. Então, negar uma cirurgia de reconstrução mamária é desconsiderar totalmente as batalhas travadas por essa mulher sobrevivente.
Não é fácil expor nossas vulnerabilidades e deixar ir o orgulho, mas a verdade é que eu preciso que vocês segurem uma vez mais as minhas mãos e me ajudem a realizar essa cirurgia. As despesas com cirurgião, hospital, anestesista, equipe e equipamentos médicos seriam muito caras aqui nos Estados Unidos (cerca 30 mil dólares). Por essa razão, fazer a cirurgia no meu país natal, o Brasil, seria uma opção mais acessível já que a diferença monetária permite realizar o mesmo procedimento com cerca de 5 mil dólares.
Eu sei que sobreviver ao câncer e ter a chance de poder ver meu filho pequeno crescer já são grandes bênçãos em minha vida, mas reconstruir a parte em mim afetada pela doença é me dar a chance de me olhar no espelho e me reconhecer sem o estigma ligado ao câncer de mama. Por isso, eu iniciei esse GoFundMe motivada por amigas queridas e pela fé inabalável de que corações bondosos podem realizar sonhos e milagres. Qualquer ajuda é muito apreciada e será usada para as contas médicas da cirurgia que está prevista para ser realizada na segunda quinzena de janeiro de 2024.
