Help Fern’s family help Fern

I’m Fern’s sister, Marlene. For those who know Fern there isn’t much introduction needed. Fern is always there to help others. He’s a funny guy. He loves video games. He loves family. He’s a cancer survivor. He’s a fighter.

I’m starting this page expecting it to evolve over time to get support for our family and Fern.

Life has always been difficult for Fern. He didn’t grow up with a normal childhood. He battled cancer twice. He’s lived with the emotional, psychological and physical effects of his battles. He’s had young friends die because of their illnesses.

In December 2024 during a regular MRI, a new tumour growth was detected in Fern’s brain. A planned biopsy was to take place in order to determine next steps and treatment. Unfortunately, this plan did not proceed.

As of March 27, 2025 Fern has had 2 emergency brain surgeries. The tumour grew and hemorrhaged. He has pneumonia and is quite ill. He is in ICU care.

The tumour is growing on his brain stem. It will never be removed completely.

As his family, we are there around the clock for him. Providing this care comes with its own challenges. My dad having had cancer a few years ago and unable to work. My mother having blood clotting problems and needs to take care of her health as well.

This is just the start for Fern. We still need to find out the results of the biopsy to determine how to tackle the tumour. Fern needs to gain a bit of strength as well before going down that journey.

As his family, we can’t leave him alone. Fern would be there for anyone if the roles were reversed. He has a niece who adores him. He has a pure heart. It is heartbreaking that he is suffering again.

The financial impact to our family is unknown. I started this page to help offset some of our current expenses for parking and sundry expenses. Once we know the pathology results of the tumour, there may be other expenses. All other funds will go to Fern.

I would never think of doing a GoFundMe page but this is quite a stressful and unknown financial impact for our family as we spend all our time with Fern.

Any support would be helpful. Fern cannot wait to get himself a Starbucks drink as soon as he can drink again.
