Help Fidel Fight to regain Speech and Mobility

My name is Heather, my significant other and partner in life Fidel suffered a large, devastating stroke to the left side of his brain on Sunday, July 31st around 10:45pm while laying next to me in bed. The stroke has affected Fidel’s ability to speak and use the right side of his body. He is improving everyday but still in the ICU at LSU hospital. We are so grateful to the doctors and nurses caring for him through the most difficult journey of our lives.
Fidel is a healthy 34 yo who lives a very active, fit lifestyle. He was actually playing in a baseball game earlier that evening with the Red River baseball league for the bossier city rats where he tore his Achilles’ tendon. He was just complaining to me about how he couldn’t believe he wasn’t going to be able to play in the next game and now I would have to help take care of him. Little did we know that a couple hours later our entire world would be completely shaken to the core. I truly believe this was a sign from god for me to watch Fidel even closer that night being that I was able to catch the stroke as it was happening, call 911 and get him to the hospital within 30 minutes.
Those that know Fidel know how much of a hard headed, determined, kind, loving, strong, hard working man he is. Fidel is someone who takes time out of a work day to bring my best friend (and boss)’s kids cupcakes after nap time because they had a dream that Fifi brought them cupcakes. (Fifi being their nickname for him, which has quickly become the only name anyone in Shreveport Louisiana calls him now). Fidel loves kids, he has a beautiful 1 yo niece from Tampa, Florida who he FaceTimes with every single night. I can’t wait to get him back to doing the things and being around the people he loves most. Him and I were actively working on staring a family of our own and praying we have the opportunity to fulfill this dream of becoming parents some day.
We are taking things day by day. The next steps are to get Fidel into an inpatient rehabilitation center where he will be able to start aggressive therapy to regain speech and mobility. The first 3 months are the most crucial when recovering from a stroke. We have a long road ahead, but so much love and support surrounding us.
The funds raised will be going towards covering fees for medical bills and rehabilitation. If you are unable to donate please share this link and keep Fidel and his loved ones in your prayers.
