Help Fil Return Home

Hi friends and family,

Our family is reaching out with a heartfelt request. Our beloved friend, mentor, and community member, Filomena, was recently diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. She is currently living in Vancouver, WA and wants to come home to be with friends, family, and the amazing Homer community where she finds comfort and solace. However, the costs associated with this move are more than our family can afford on our own. She will be going to Long Term Care at the hospital, and they will take her whole social security check. There will still be bills to pay, including her last month’s rent in Vancouver.

Filomena first moved to Homer, Alaska in 2000, when her daughter Sarah was pregnant with her grandkid Zoe. Originally from the east coast, she moved here not knowing anyone, and discovered a community filled with beautiful souls and life-long friendships. Homer became her home, and despite moving around to various states throughout the years, and despite the challenges that come with life, she has always returned. Please help her return for good.

Financial challenges have always been a part of our lives, and despite seemingly hopeless situations, our community always seems to find a way to show their support in any way they can. Right now, we desperately need your help, in any way you can, to assist us in packing, moving, and finding a new home for Fil in Homer where she can reunite with our community. Any support you can provide will help make her transition back to Homer possible, taking some of the burdens off of us in this time of strain and stress. A kind and generous friend has already donated the air miles we need to get me there to help her for a couple of weeks, and then fly us both home. Whatever money is leftover that we don’t use we will donate back to the Homer community.
