Help finish Veteran's Riverfront Park in Cook, MN
Tax deductible
Greetings! Friends of the Parks has been working on Veterans Riverfront Park for the past 2 years and are nearing completion! Specifically, this park was designed to honor area veterans. Although we have already accomplished a lot, we still need to raise funds to cover several projects which includes the major project of paving the parking lot.
Through a number of generous donations as well as a handful of grants, we have been able to turn an unused, dilapidated grassy lot along the Littlefork river on the edge of Cook's business district into a beautiful park to honor our veterans. Our amenities include an ADA compliant walkway and picnic area, flagpole area, veterans monument, grills, trash receptacles, benches, swings, as well as additional trees and gardens.
Although the flagpole area, benches, and one picnic area are ADA compliant, there is currently no reliable access to the walkway. Currently the parking lot is a rough mixture of crushed rock and sand that is not flat or level and is prone to washouts during heavy rains and springtime high water.
After consulting with several contractors we have decided that the best long term solution to the parking lot issues is to pave. Along with the cost of the paving, drainage areas need to be improved, fill needs to be hauled in to level the lot prior to paving, and curbs need to be installed.
All donations are appreciated. Any additional funds received past our goal will go towards future Friends of the Parks projects.
