Hi Everyone,
Im Cody and this is my Mums story.
My Mum had recently lost her Mum (Our Grandma) and after a hard time, she had decided to book a solo trip to Antalya, Turkey where she was extremely excited about being on holiday for the first time in a while.
Me and my sister had been maintaining contact with her and for the first 3 days, she seemed to be having an amazing time just relaxing.
Whilst my sister was at home, Mum had FaceTimed and Courtney knew something was wrong.
My Mum was laying on the floor covered in her own blood and acting very confused and in agony, unable to move. Courtney rang myself to where i rang my Mum to get a better understanding. Mum had finally managed to crawl into the bed and i was pleading for her to try and ring reception. She began to try the landline in the room and pressed every single button she could and nobody was answering. My Mum continued to try this for 10 minutes and then began screaming for help but nobody came.
I then began to try and ring the hotel and nobody answered, whilst my Mum was unable to move, i contacted 999 in the UK & the embassy in Turkey, finally, the police had managed to get through to the hotel after 50 minutes of waiting.
My Mum was rushed to Antalya Life Private Hospital (not of her own accord) and was taken straight to the Intensive Care Unit where she had undergone treatment and was diagnosed with Gastrointestinal Haemorrhaging, Liver Cirrhosis & has now been told she has Sepsis.
My Mums condition has now worsened and she is unable to talk or move, the doctors have said she may be unable to walk again but they are not certain. She is non responsive and we need to get her home to carry on treatment in the UK.
We have contacted the insurance and liaised with the British Consulate here in Turkey. The hospital have also said that unless she is medically repatriated (either on her own jet with doctors or on a commercial flight with a doctor) that she will not be allowed to leave (even if fit and ready to go) unless she foots the bill, of which far exceeds any money the family have. The hospital are also not providing us with the price as of yet even though we have asked numerous times.
We need to get our Mum on a flight home from Antalya Turkey, to Manchester, UK and this is looking to cost anywhere from £20,000-£50,000 and as you can imagine, none of us have that amount laying around. We are hoping these funds will cover the cost of treatment and the Medical Repatriation.
After liasing back and forth with the Hospital & Insurance, the insurance have informed us that they are not willing to cover Fiona. The insurance have stated on the basis of having a un-diagnosed pre-exisiting medical condition.
We have took this on board and we cannot stress enough to every single family going abroad. Please buy the correct medical insurance and ensure you are covered by every minor detail, please do not end up in the same situation as us to where we as a family are now reaping the consequences of my Mum’s mistake.
I beg and plead for everyone to donate anything they can & share the story to friends, family, social media, media outlets, anybody to help.
We need her home and we need her to pull through.
