Help Kenyans survive catastrophic flooding
Donation protected
Kenya has been hit by terrible flooding, and so many people have lost their homes and all their possessions.
My name is Selkie, I'm 15 and I'm Kenyan, and I'm raising money to help the people who have been most affected. They need clean water, food, warm & waterproof clothes, and so much else.
Every dollar you give will make a difference to these people in their hour of need. All of it will go to a great organisation called SHOFCO - Shining Hope for Communities. SHOFCO is based in Kibera, the largest slum in Africa, and is run by my amazing friend Kennedy Odede.
If anyone knows how to really help the people of Kibera it's Kennedy. If you've not heard of him before he's just been named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine, and that's because what SHOFCO is doing right now is reaching the worst hit and the most needy. They desperately need our help.
I know how much damage a flash flood can cause, and how terrifying it feels to get hit by water of such intense power. It's happened to my family in Samburu in the north of Kenya and devastated our lives. We were able to escape to higher ground and get away. Right now so many Kenyans can't.
We're braced for even more intense rain over the next few days, which the government is warning will be at catastrophic levels.
Thank you for reading, and for helping.
Selkie
P.S. Update on 4th May... Thank you all for your amazing response! We've topped our initial goal of £5,000. There's even more need for support now - as we feared Kenya has been hit by even stronger rainfall, now on top of a cyclone off the coast. So I've doubled the goal to £10,000, which would be an amazing thing for us to achieve!
P.P.S. As soon the funds are transferred from GoFundMe my dad is sending them on to SHOFCO via bank transfer. SHOFCO (a US tax exempt organisation whose operational base is here in Nairobi) have set up a dedicated Flood Relief programme, and all of your support will go to basic support packages including food, hygiene products, clothes and bedding.
