Namaste! My name is Denise Anasuya French.
I am a childbirth mentor and an advocate of humanizing birth for mothers and their families in South Florida.
As a birth mentor, also known as a doula, I have assisted mothers during labor at more than one hundred births. I have noticed that during some births, at both North and in South America, there is unnecessary fear and intimidation.
My work as a birth mentor has inspired me to bring attention to the need to humanize childbirth and to provide education and alternatives for mothers to be.
I am creating a documentary called, “Squeezing Orange, The Awakening of Childbirth in South Florida,” in order to bring awareness to the alarming increase in the rising growth of C-sections in south Florida. I believe one reason for this increase in C-sections is the lack of women-led autonomous childbirth.
My documentary addresses three main points for change:
1) We must create more humanized birth practices through respecting informed consent and informed refusal during childbirth.
2) We must prevent obstetric violence against birthing women and the devastating maternal trauma it can cause.
3) We must normalize birth as a natural highly personal physiological process that, more often than not, does not require medical assistance.
Squeezing Orange has been in the works for the past 7 years. The project began with a small intention of change starting with a personal investment to a big donation of time from beautiful souls such as caregivers, filmmakers, photographers, birthing mothers, and committed fathers.
The documentary is in its last stage and this is why I need your help:
We are currently in the post-production stage of the documentary and looking to raise $7,000 dollars to complete the film. The money will be used for video editing, music composition, sound editing, coloring, special effects, and distribution.
