On August 25th Allison was riding as a passenger in her own vehicle headed South through Virginia to a friend's home. In an incredibly devastating example of simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time Allison was involved in a head on collision due to the negligence of a driver under the influence of drugs and alcohol. The man at fault and recklessly unconcerned with the lives of others was fleeing from the police. The man was traveling in the wrong direction on an exit ramp when he crashed into Allison's car, severely injuring her in the accident, while putting her life and the lives of others in jeopardy. This poor excuse of a human being who decided to get behind the wheel under the influence (without a license) was also operating his vehicle without any insurance to provide coverage for the excessive amount of damage caused to Allison's health, in addition to destroying her vehicle.
Allison has already undergone many surgeries to correct a plethora of serious injuries she suffered in this tragic moment. To say her road ahead will be challenging is being kind given the internal damage to many of her organs that required surgery, in addition to the replacement of an aortic valve to restore blood circulation to her legs. Broken bones in her foot and lower leg may need pins, reconstruction and casting with inevitable physical therapy required in her future to regain her mobility.
In a horrifying moment like this Allison and her family are grateful beyond words for the outcry of support, prayers and kind words. When something like this happens it's a blessing without measure to know the people in your community embrace those in need. Many wonderful individuals have reached out wanting to do more, and in that spirit of caring this page has been created. A humble heart would be granted to anyone looking to ease the financial burden associated with Allison's recovery efforts in the months to come. Between the months of medical expenses, loss of work and income, and the anticipated legal battle with a noninsured motorist, it's easy to see the concern. Allison and her family are bracing for extreme expenses at no fault of their own. We sincerely hope we can help Allison and the Kohut family pay the cost associated with a criminal's blatant disregard for someone's daughter, sister, cousin, co-worker, and friend... Especially until justice is swiftly served to the responsible party, and Allison's health is fully recovered.
As a friend and neighbor of the Kohut family (nearly my entire life) I thank everyone for taking the time to read Allison's story. Please continue sharing it with others as we unite around a wonderful woman who should not have to suffer this nightmare.
