Help for an Afghani Family

Donation protected
When I heard Zabi's story, I knew we had to support him and his family, including three young children. I met Zabi when he was driving me home from the airport and I asked where he was from. Afghanistan, he said.

For seven years, Zabi had been a translator and weather forecaster for the US in Afghanistan. On the chaotic day of our withdrawal, he got a call to immediately get to the airport if he wanted to leave. He had to make a split second decision in
order to begin a new life. He had to get on the cargo plane, crammed full, like a rush hour subway car. He called his wife and told her he would bring her and the children over as soon as possible. That was August of 2021. It took until the end of December 2023--almost two-and-a-half years--for the family to reunite in the US. Finally, his wife and children were able to join him.

While they have received some help (Jewish Family Services has secured them temporary lodging), they have yet to settle in a home, moving to four different Air BnBs since January.

Now, all five family members have considerable expenses: from getting their green cards, paying for required medical exams, and, secure a home -- needing to pay three months' rent: first, last, and security deposit.

This is a significant moment in Zabi and his family's new life, a moment when WE can make a difference. Helping this family to live full, empowered lives is a small act with big implications.
