Help for an power wheelchair
Donation protected
My name is Gareth Hughes I’m 36 years old and I need help funding a power wheelchair. I have Spastic Quadriplegia Cerebral Palsy this affects my muscle control in both legs and left arm. I can’t walk unaided and rely on a wheelchair especially outdoors and for the past year I’ve had to rely on my manual wheelchair to get about, someone has to push me everywhere has I cannot operate the manual wheelchair myself as my left arm does not straighten out and I’ve got little use in my wrist and hand. My sister is my main carer and pushing my wheelchair is getting harder it causes pain and discomfort in her hands as she suffers with arthritis in my fingers, neck, back and knees.
I have lost my independence that my mother had fought for my entire life, she did everything she could to get me independent so i could reach different milestones. Since her passing 21 months ago from Covid-19 we have struggled emotional and financial. My old power wheelchair was written off 2 years ago my depression has gotten worse and I’m stressing of not having my independence it’s affecting me daily. My last power wheelchair was 10 years ago and the prices have increased loads over the years.
With everything that has happened to our family over the past 2 years any help will be amazing. I will get my independence back; it will improve my depression and daily moods. Keeping me independent like my mother had fought for.
It will take the pressure of my sister and ease her physical and emotional difficulties. Your help will give us the encouragement to slowly get our lives back so we can do everything our mum wanted to do.
