A few days ago a Lyft driver was badly assaulted and threatened by a Lyft rider who called himself as a gangster.
On the way to his drop off destination. The guy passenger started quarreling with his fellow lady rider on the trip. Later it went way above and beyond . The guy-started abusing and beating her. The lady started shouting and crying very loud.
During such violence Ashish gently and politely requested the guy passenger to stop the abuse but instead he started threatening him as well. He was already in fear situation when things went up to hitting and beating . Therefore, ashish stop his car to call 911 to get help for his and lady well being from violent passenger .
Before he touches his phone to call 911 the guy snatched his phone and beat him multiple times on the head , brain and neck causing injury. Since he had no phone later he again stopped his car to public place thinking other would call 911 for help. As soon as he stopped his car nearby the liquor store the guy ran and left Asish phone. And then Ashish immediately call 911 when he got the phone. When police arrived at the scenes later he was sent in Jamaica Hospital .
Lyft has failed to support him during his traumatic situations . Lyft compensate him with $50 for transportation expense but not his lost wages from not being able to work . Also on the other side the criminal is freely walking on the street and arrest has not been made yet.
Ashish who is hardworking Lyft driver from New York City is father of 5 years old and a husband whose family totally depend on him. Since he is going through traumatic situation and in ability to work he and his family is suffering with financial condition and living expenses .
Therefore, we are doing fund raising for him and his family to support with the funds.

Regarding Organizer- My name is Sonam Ghising Lama . I am a community leader serving community over decades with social services and also an organizer from non profit organization Independent Driver Guild IDG. When I watch and learn his story I was very sadden and frustrated. This should not have happened any to humankind not even to animals. This is inhuman act. Since Lyft has not taken this issues in a right way I am helping organize this fundraiser to help Ashish . IDG is also trying to help him with legal support.
All the funds would go to Asish Sapkota (victim).
