Help for Dave 2.0

Well here we are again, round 2! For those of you who are new here, let me take you back.

So one of my best friends (Dave) found out he had a terminal brain tumour in late 2019. After some bad diagnoses they gave him a few years to live. In true Dave fashion he didn’t let a little thing like brain cancer get him down, he became the most positive and upbeat person about the situation you would ever meet. He literally carried us all into a better headspace and kept us all going. Cut to late last year and he had a bit of a funny turn and things started to go wrong, there was a very quick decline and the doctors told him that he likely had 6 months left. I quickly sorted out a charity event to raise money for my friend. Everyone was incredibly kind and generous and helped raise money to allow Dave and Emily to have the best wedding ever!

The new diagnosis was in October time last year and still Dave soldiers on, he’s still with us today. He still has his sparkle and wit but his body is starting to fail him and the frustration of that is getting to him. I did an update on Dave and so many of you asked about another charity event to help him out even further. So here we are!

This time around it is more about helping him have the easiest and most comfortable life possible with the time he has left. He needs to be able to get in and out the shower, so it means having a new one fitted where he doesn’t have to climb in. It also means having a new front door that opens outwards so that he doesn’t have to awkwardly stand and move round it at the bottom of his stairlift. All things like that, which we take for granted will actually mean the world to Dave and Emily.

The plan: what I’m thinking about doing is doing some extra hard reformer Pilates classes at heartcore on 5th October and 2nd November. Then doing an outside strength and conditioning type workout with a possible swim on the 21st September.

The first time I did this I was overwhelmed with the generosity of people. I wish I could hug you all individually to thank you. I still get really teary thinking about how kind everyone was. I in no way expect to get the same level this time around. Whether you’re coming to the classes, a picnic or just wanting to give a donation I cannot emphasise enough how much anything you can give helps Dave. It is literally world changing for my friend.

If you’ve managed to stay around and read all this then well done. This essay wasn’t easy to write and I appreciate you taking the time to get through it. I can’t thank you enough for helping in whatever way you can.

Lots of Love
