Help for Eric and Jason
Donation protected
My brother, Eric (whom many of you know as Steve) suffered a serious cardiac event on November 15. Though every effort was made to save him, he passed in the early morning of November 20th. He leaves his partner, Jason, who suffers with brain-related disabilities and is a vulnerable adult. Eric was his caretaker.
Eric, on Social Security disability himself, was struggling with financial issues and health concerns in the weeks before his death. Even though several people urged him to seek medical attention, he ignored that to try to make sure the people who depended on him were taken care of. From the time we were kids, he always sought to help others and had a long list of people to care for, even at the cost of his own well-being. He did that so well that not even the people closest to him knew how bad things had gotten.
When I went to Jason after Eric's hospitalization, it became clear that Eric had been unable to care for Jason or himself for quite sometime. The apartment where they live needs serious attention to bring it back to a safe and healthy rentable living space. We will need removal services, deep cleaning and pest control services, which will cost several thousand dollars. In addition, the sum of their assets can't cover death-related expenses. We aren't planning to do anything fancy -- just take his ashes to his favorite spot in the North Cascades. Of course, we are also working to find resources for Jason, but that is not part of this campaign.
Many, many people have asked how they could help. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to this campaign in Eric's memory. I could give hundreds of examples of times when I watched him step in to help others physically, financially, emotionally, etc. I don't know what to do without this person who was my go-to person whenever something was going sideways. I already miss him so much more than words can say.
