As a community we are raising money to help get Miss Hailyn a diabetic alert dog.
Here is her story:
Hailyn is 8 years old and when she was just 3 years old, she was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. For those of you that aren’t familiar with it, type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease caused by your body attacking the beta cells that produce insulin in pancreas, causing them to quit working. There is currently no cure for type 1 diabetes. Hailyn is currently wearing an insulin pump that gives her a constant flow of insulin 24 hours a day, on top of giving herself additional insulin at meal times to cover the total carbs that she eats. She is just like any other 8 year old girl in every other aspect though! She currently is a competitive dancer at Studio 413 Dance Center where she is excelling! However, increased exercise causes her blood sugar to drastically drop and sometimes she doesn’t notice until it’s really low. A diabetic alert dog would help Hailyn tremendously because they are trained to detect high and low blood glucose levels. They are also trained to bring their human their blood glucose monitor, as well as snacks to help correct a low! Some alert dogs are even trained to dial 911 in the case of an emergency!
