Help for Helen’s Recovery
Donation protected
Hello everyone
Megan and I created this gofundme for my dear friend and her sister in law, Helen Valek. On June 9 around 11:00pm, Helen sent a message to her husband, Nicholas Valek, saying she was on her way home from work. Helen never made it home that night.
She was driving through an intersection when another driver, who was under the influence of drugs and alcohol, ran a red light and t-boned her on her driver side door. Pushing her across the intersection and slamming her into the signal pole. Emergency personnel had to remove Helen from her car. When Helen was first brought into the hospital she was non-responsive. Her husband was told that it was not looking good and for the next hour he patiently sat, with his daughter in his arms, awaiting Helen’s fate. He was finally told he could go in and see her and that’s when the trauma doctors told him that she woke up. The doctors asked her to give them a thumbs up if she could feel them touching her leg and she did. There was hope and since that day Helen has amazed everyone with her strength and progress. She is a miracle.
Helen is still in the hospital after a month and has had 3 surgeries so far. She has what’s called the Hangman’s fracture. The surgeon had to fuse her neck from her C1 - C4 and placed a plate in front of her neck vertebrae. She also has a broken clavicle and a broken rib. Lots of respiratory therapy, physical therapy and speech therapy. She has not fully recovered and it will take some time, but she will recover.
First and foremost I ask for your love and prayers for Helen. She has a beautiful 2 year old (almost 3 year old) daughter waiting for her to come home. Her husband is by her side, encouraging and supporting her everyday. This traumatic event can be very costly. Towering medical bills and loss of income since she will not be going back to work any time soon. If you can, please donate towards Helen’s recovery. Any amount helps. If you are not able to donate please share. Thank you in advance!
