My name is Jeff Wright. I grew up in Richfield, MN and am currently living in St Vincent and The Grenadines. I arrived in St Vincent Weds June 26 and flew to Carriacou June 27. I had lunch with my business partner Edwin on Saturday June 29 and we reviewed our business plan. Then hurricane Beryl struck July 1 and everything changed for 1000's of people, including myself. We have big storms in Minnesota and I've seen 70 mph winds while camping on Lake Superior, but nothing like this. I was outside of my hotel - Ades Dream House - in Hillsboro when leading edge of storm hit bringing with it 160 mph winds. I ran inside as quickly as I could. Thank God I wasn't injured or worse, but I did lose everything I had: a beautiful 1971 40' sailboat and pizza shop in Clifton on Union Island. My plan was to retire on the boat, take tourists on overnights to the Tobago Cays and open a killer pizza restaurant. I also was planning on taking over for person who has been running Salty Paws Dog Rescue. I am currently on Union volunteering for the cleanup and rebuild of two of the prettiest towns I've ever seen. We will rebuild, but the destruction of Union and Carriacou was mind boggling. I have watched numerous videos on YouTube and while they are shocking having seen the destruction with my own eyes is something different. Admittedly, some of the funds I hope to raise will be used for me and my recovery, but majority will go to friends and victims on Union Island and remaining funds will be allocated to Salty Paw Dog Rescue in Clifton, Union Island. Please be as generous as possible, however anything helps. Thank you for any assistance you can send.
July 31 update: I'm back on St Vincent recovering from 4 days on Union. Like my brother Hi Tech say "Union is dismal". The clean up & rebuild has started, but the people were very traumatized & are still shell shocked. I was happy to see that Happy Island & Salty Paws didnt get mashed by Beryl. She runs a marvelous no kill shelter for highly abused dogs and is taking care of 30+ dogs. She's doing God's work. Prime Minister Ralph Gonzalves visited Union last and he looks very tired. I can understand why. A nation of traumatized citizens are looking to him to solve all their problems...now. Naturally he can't because it takes time, however when you've lost everything and are desprate you want help immediately. He spoke at a public square in Clifton & he looked likea twistec pretzel. I will be going back to Union on Friday for more cleanup & rebuild. My book "Beryl The Bitch (Or How Hurricane Beryl Bitch Slapped The Caribbean) is coming along well. I've written 30 pages and it's writing itself
