Help for James Hintz

Donation protected
A week ago today, James Hintz was admitted to Allenmore hospital.  He woke up that morning unable to walk or even move, with excruciating pain throughout his body, feet that were horribly bruised, pain in his mouth that made it difficult to talk, and mysteriously,  no recollection of what happened that could’ve caused him so much injury.
After a week stay, a myriad of tests, various imagings, his medical history, including his last stay at Allenmore, collectively, what is known at this time, allbeit pending further diagnosis and clearer understanding, is that he had a seizure, severe enough that he fractured 2 vertebrae, broke one foot, seriously injured the other, bruised his ribs and caused him to bite his tongue badly.
He was fitted for, and is now wearing a back brace. He has huge lapses in his memory, especially of the past  few weeks. He struggles with confusion, mental fatigue, the forming of current memory, some cognitive delay and difficulty tracking.  The amount of pain medication that he’s being given doesn’t help mental clarity, but for those who know him well, he is clearly not his usual self.
Overall, his journey of recovery and rehabilitation looks grim, in that it’s going to be a long, uneasy one. How long it takes for a brain to recover the affects of seizure varies.  How long his physical injuries will take to completely mend is unknown at this time, but I think it’s safe to say that it’s going to be a long while.
He was transported to Good Sam Hospital yesterday, where he’s in excellent hands for inpatient physical and occupational therapy.  It’s reasonable to speculate that this initial phase of his recovery and rehabilitation will take 2 to 3 weeks. Otherwise, an estimated total healing time hasn’t yet been given for him.
He’s been told that he can’t drive or work for the next six months. While he can’t seem to understand many things right now, he understands this, and is worried and anguished  about how he’ll meet his financial obligations for 6 months without any earnings.
Jim says this has been the most stressful week of his life. Together, we can help to alleviate his worries, and make getting through this time much easier for him.
The objective for setting up this fundraiser for him is just that- to relieve him of financial stress as much as we can. The goal is to raise enough money to help him with his normal costs of living, and any medical expenses he’s responsible for beyond his medical insurance coverage.
This GoFundMe post will remain for at least as long as it takes him and his life to get back on track; hopefully and prayerfully sooner than, not more than, the next six months.  For those who want to help, there are a few ways:
If you’d like to gift him, but are unable to at this time, know that this post will be here if you’d like to revisit and give to it later.
Some of us may want to give a one time gift.
Some of us might want to consider pledging a monthly gift. It might make giving easier for some of us, while helping Jim to know if there’s something he can count on in the months ahead. If all of us on this site only pledged $5, or if half of us pledged $10 a month for the next 6 months, the total would far exceed the total raised by those able to give $50 or $100 at once. Not everyone is able to do that. There’s a place for messages herein where you can note a monthly pledge if that’s something you can/want to do.
Some of us may not be able to give much, but a little bit from a lot of people can add up to a lot.
Some of us may not be able to give  at all. And that’s okay.
What any one of us is moved to do or can do is personal. It needn’t be explained.
But the one thing that we can all do is send him encouragement, love, support, good thoughts, prayers and our best wishes. In these ways we stand together for him more powerfully than anything else in helping him to heal.
Here’s to you James, Jim, Jimmy, and Jimbo! May you recover well and quickly. You are very loved and appreciated, for all you do for others, and just for being you!
Thank you for that!

P.S.
Dear Mr. Hintz,
Restrain from schmoozing with the pretty young nurses. While the drugs you’re on can delude you into thinking otherwise, presently you are unable to keep up with any one of them. Just in case the devil tries to trick you into believing you’re a good catch right now, here’s a dose of reality, albeit disillusioning. You’ll  likely return home, whenever you do, still wrapped in the manly back brace you’re wearing, with those fancy boots on your feet, sporting a very hip walker, with four wheels, hand brakes, a basket and a horn. (There’s a weekly drawing for a free set of baseball cars and 2 clothes pins.) The accumulative affect of the pain pills will likely cause you to drool from one or both sides of your mouth. As well, it may be necessary for you to keep a portable urinal in the basket of your walker. I hate to squelch your dreams, but keep a close eye on that visual, so you don’t embarrass yourself.
Just enjoy the jello, and remember to watch “Wheel of Fortune” on channel 4, at 7:00 each night, with Vanna White!
We love you,

Update: Rita Hoskins, a lifelong friend of James Hintz, has agreed to accept the money on James' behalf, and will distribute the funds according to his wishes in paying his medical bills and living expenses.
