Help For Jessi’s Mother

I met Jessi at Camphill California, a community for adults with developmental disabilities where we both volunteer and study social therapy.

About two months ago, her mother began to have random bruises on her legs and arms and these bruises lasted a lot longer than usual. Her mom had her blood tested and unfortunately had been diagnosed with a rare type of bone marrow cancer called myelofibrosis.

Myelofibrosis is an uncommon type of bone marrow cancer that disrupts the body's normal production of blood cells. At the moment, myelofibrosis is irreversible and the only cure is getting the stem cell transplants.

Her mother is currently suffering from pneumonia, bacteremia and several organ infections because of her low immune system. She is experiencing difficulty with breathing and can only breath ok with the nasal cannula. She is also experiencing a lot of pain in her bones and the abdomen area.

The form of this disease is serious and acute, so she needs an aggressive treatment which focuses on relieving symptoms. Her mom does not have much time left and the transplants should be arranged as soon as possible.

Thus, currently, the family is looking for a bone marrow donor with 100% matching HLA(Human Leukocyte Antigen).

Yesterday, There was some optimistic news from the marrow donor program that there are currently 26 donors who are highly likely to have the same HLA.

Stem cell transplant is the only “cure” for this diseases but unfortunately it is one of the most expensive treatments. Even though she has health insurance that can cover some part of the medical bills, they still need more help! Jessi has given her time and energy to our community and is an amazing human and that’s why we are creating a go fund me page. Please, if you can help, anything would be appreciated. Thank you.
