Help for John Lanning's Family
Donation protected

On March 29, 2020 a very dear friend to so many of us passed away in a single car accident. John Lanning left us all, but most importantly left behind his best friend, his 15 year old son Drake, and his wife of almost 17 years, Laura.
John was only 43 years old and was the primary breadwinner for his family. Unfortunately, John did not have any life insurance set up at the time of his passing. All monies raised will go to Drake and Laura to first help ease the financial burden of Funeral/Memorial costs and then to help with rent and all financial obligations for the time being. It will help them get on their feet during this difficult time, I don’t want them to worry about finances while trying to process everything that has happened. I absolutely understand that times are tough, especially now, and appreciate everyone who can donate but absolutely understand if you can’t at this time. We would just as much appreciate and love everyone who can send prayers and who can share.
John was born in Anaheim, CA and in the 7th grade moved to Fallon where he would meet his future wife. They became best friends in High School and would later marry on 09/20/2003 when they were both very young adults. In 2005 they had their one and only child, Drake. For the rest of his time he would consider the Fallon/Fernley area his home with a small break in Mackay, Idaho, a place John also really adored.
In High School John was part of the Fallon Soccer team (#6). He would go on to help establish and coach the first competitive youth Fernley Soccer team after he saw the love and passion his own son had for the sport he loved so dearly. He helped found this team when his son was 9 years old and would play in the Great Basin Reno Youth Soccer League (Battleborn was the team name). For anyone who has had a kid in competitive sports you can understand the time dedication. John spent 100's if not 1,000's of hours just driving Drake to all his practices, games or tournaments. John was one of those who would help anyone who needed it, but he had a real soft spot for his soccer kids and to see so many of them out there on the field as high school players meant the world to him. If any of you have ever been to a high school game this last year, then you probably heard John trying to refrain from coaching from the sideline, and most likely failing.
John was a true Nevadan. He loved the outdoors; if he wasn’t traveling to a soccer field or a BMX/MX Track with his family so Drake could do what he loved, then you would find him hunting or fishing with his family and friends. Rural Nevada was the perfect place for this and why he loved this area so much and considered it home. In addition, he was an amazing hunting dog trainer, which if you have ever met his labs he so loved (Duke, Jake, Barley, Two, and all his others) then you have seen his passion and dedication for training.
I would also like everyone to know that with what is happening with the Covid-19 virus that all memorial services will be postponed until it is all safe for us to get together. Everyone’s safety and health is the biggest concern but we will keep everyone posted on when we can have a service to remember the beautiful soul that is John Lanning.
Thank you and lots of love to everyone!
