Help for Lillian Rose Howard

Lillian Rose is a beautiful three year old little girl who has been recently diagnosed with Fragile X Syndrome, Autism, Sensory Processing Disorder, Pica, and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.  As you can imagine, this a lot for her and her parents, Corey and Laura Howard, to take on.

Fragile X Syndrome (FXS) is a genetic condition that causes a range of developmental problems including learning disabilities and cognitive impairment.   FXS also comes with physical complications.  Lillian Rose was born with pronated ankles and loose joints.  Additionally, children diagnosed with FXS are often diagnosed with Autism and ADHD which is the case for Lillian Rose.  She has difficulty socializing and communicating.  She has a limited vocabulary and is at the mental age of a 12 month old.  Pica, associated with Autism, is a craving for non-edible items so there is limited food she will eat.  She only eats chunky food and will not eat anything liquidy due to her Sensory Processing Disorder.  This is a condition in which the brain has trouble receiving and responding to information that comes through the senses.   

This fundraiser has been created by Corey's work family to help him and Laura with some of the expenses for her care.  While there is no cure for FXS and the other disorders, early intervention is key to improving mental and behavioral development.  She will need care for the rest of her life.  Unfortunately, insurance does not cover all of the expenses.  

Lillian Rose will need a right knee brace and both leg and ankle braces. 

Throughout her life she will be in need of sensory items to provide the sensory input she needs.  Some of the items she's using now are a weighted vest, a weighted blanket, and a sensory swing.  

She is currently attending speech and occupational therapy twice a week.  In October, she will be in four therapies a week (speech, occupational, behavioral, and physical).  On top of that, she has regular doctor visits in Atlanta to manage her nutrition and autism.  Most of her needs are not covered by insurance.

The Howards are a wonderful family.  Despite these recent diagnoses, they are in good spirits and optimistic about Lillian Rose's future.
