Help for Mamaroneck Flood Victims (Again)

Hi, my name is Erin. On September 1, 2021, Mamaroneck, NY was hit badly by Hurricane Ida, seeing substantial flooding in primarily working-class Latinx neighborhoods. Many people lost their homes and most of their belongings and were unable to return to safe living conditions in the village for months.

Tragically, on September 29, 2023, these same neighborhoods were hit again by the substantial rainfall in NYC and surrounding suburbs. Families who were only just getting settled back into their lives and homes after Ida are now without basic necessities like toilet paper, diapers, shampoo, socks, etc. There are, once again, families who will not be able to return home for some time and will need to rebuild their lives.

After Ida, my wife Katie and I worked with people in the community to gather and distribute much needed supplies for those who lost their homes and businesses. With the help of donations, we were able to purchase thousands of diapers, pairs of socks, toiletries, shelf-stable food items, and more. (You can see a picture of our car loaded up after one shopping trip at the top of the page.) We also collected (and purchased when needed) coats, kitchen supplies, and Christmas presents for children in the months that followed. Now, with everything destroyed by flooding again, we will be back purchasing items and distributing them in the communities. And you can help by donating to support our efforts!

Any amount you can give to help keep our donations going would be much appreciated, both by us and the community! We will withdraw the money ourselves to fund our purchasing of supplies, starting with toiletries, socks and underwear, and cleaning supplies. (While we know from the experience of Ida that there will be need for quite some time and we will likely be able to easily spend any money we raise, we will donate any additional funds back into the community, either to the Fuller Center in Mamaroneck or The Sharing Shelf in Port Chester.)
