Help for Marquis II After Burglary
Donation protected
Early this Easter weekend morning (4/11), our beloved neighborhood gathering place, the Marquis II, was burglarized. A significant sum of money was taken, along with other important items in the safe. Al Jara and his wife have been working day and night for the past year and a half to transform this local icon into the best neighborhood bar anywhere in Houston. Already forced into temporary closure due to COVID-19, Al was just finding new ways to generate income through sales of t-shirts, hats, and gift cards. He's going to need our support to get past this awful invasion and to ensure The Deuce is ready to open once the pandemic is under control. Please help if you can. Many thanks.
*Update* 4/13 - The response so far has been amazing, and we have extended the goal a bit more, as Al calculates losses and upcoming expenses. We will be starting the withdrawal process with GoFundMe and will get all funds (minus their fees) to Al and the Marquis II as soon as they're available. I will be writing him a check as soon as we have the funds in hand (we'll post photos of that as it happens). Al will be using the funds to replace inventory (shirts, hats, koozies, etc.) so he can continue to generate some revenue for the bar, as well as for replacement of items stolen during the break-in, fixing the doors/locks, etc. These funds are crucial to keeping the business afloat during the shutdown, and Al is incredibly appreciative for everyone's support!
*Final Update 4/16 - We've hit all goals, and it's time to close this special campaign - thank you all so very much for your generous donations and support of Al, Sara, and the Marquis II. We can't wait to see everyone back there to raise a glass in celebration of the re-opening of this Houston institution (hopefully soon!!)
