Help for our friend, Martha Lockhart
Donation protected
My friend Martha Lockhart has developed a condition that drastically affects the way her body metabolizes blood sugar. It's a dangerous condition called hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia, and it requires ongoing treatment with the goal of stabilization. Treatment will include wearing a continuous glucose monitor, which will alert Martha when her blood sugar changes, requiring immediate treatment. She is on a highly restricted diet and pattern of eating. Testing is ongoing to see if there are medications that will help, although two drugs have already failed. She is seeing an endocrinologist at the Joslin Diabetic Center, who is a Harvard affiliated physician specializing in this disorder. This requires frequent trips to Boston from her home in New Bedford. Martha has been unable to work at her job as a hospice nurse since mid-November, as she can experience multiple episodes of hypoglycemia each day, and most days cannot leave home. Her need for funding is immediate, as she's had to assume financial responsibility for her insurance premium, which is $900 a month, plus high deductibles and copays. Any funds she receives will go toward the costs of medical and living expenses.
Martha and I have been friends for over 25 years. She is known to be generous of heart and spirit, and always ready to help others, but now she needs our help. Donations of any amount will be gratefully received.
