Landon is a bright, kindhearted, loving, intelligent 5 year old boy whose is currently fighting for his life.
Landon was diagnosed with pneumonia, but as more tests were done the findings became greater and he became sicker. He began to have seizures multiple organ failure after lesions were found on his kidneys, brain, and other organs. To allow his body to rest, he was placed in a medically induced coma, which required him to be on a ventilator for 2 weeks.
While in the coma, multiple tests were conducted to find the source of his illness. Landon underwent multiple blood tests, ultrasounds, CT scans, kidney and liver biopsies, lumbar punctures, and bone marrow biopsies. Thankfully, after being hospitalized for over 3 weeks, the source of his illness has been discovered! However, it has been determined that Landon will have a long road to recovery. When Landon was weaned off the ventilator and awakened from all the medications he was given to keep him comfortable, it was discovered that his eyesight had been affected. The doctors say that the cause is not due to damage to his eyes, but there is damage to his brain from the lesions and the chemotherapy should resolve the issue.
The doctors at Children's Hospital say Landon will need at least eight weeks of chemotherapy to rid him of the primary hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytisis (HLH) before he can receive a bone marrow transplant, which is the only cure to his condition, x-linked lymphoproliferative disease (XLP). Without the bone marrow transplant, XLP is fatal.
