Help Improve Security for Monterey Pizza & Asian-Zap and Keep the Business Alive! ❤️
Call for Help: We need your help! Monterey Pizza & Asian Zap (Monterey Pizza) has sustained damages and losses from recent burglaries and vandalism, pushing this local business to the brink of survival. This GoFundMe campaign serves to rally the community to help shore up the business's security and replace stolen items needed to run a viable business.
Background: Monterey Pizza has been a San Francisco institution for over 18 years, and is a woman- and minority-owned small business committed to feeding the Sunnyside, Miraloma Park, Twin Peaks, Ingleside, and City College SF communities. The owner (Vaenkeo Waen) took over Monterey Pizza in its current incarnation in 2015, and has provided delicious, wholesome, and affordable foods to the community ever since. Some customers travel far and wide to enjoy some of Monterey Pizza's delicious offerings, and to be greeted by Waen and her kind staff.

On May 14th, 2021, Monterey Pizza was burglarized and vandalized resulting in damages to the door, glass, and lock mechanisms. All of this came on the heels of an earlier incident on October 15th, 2020 where front windows were damaged severely, perpetrators vandalized the spaces, and stole hardware and money from the business — these included the register, computer, tablets, and point-of-sale equipment vital to running a business. Food supplies and precious inventory were also taken, totaling over $20K in losses and damage. The business is now in dire straits after these recent incidents, which have not been the first it has experienced.
Fundraising Goals: This GoFundMe campaign will help shore up Monterey Pizza's security and frontage and make it significantly more resistant to burglary in the future. Key enhancements will include high-security front and rear doors with robust lock systems, along with an exterior surveillance system and sound alarms to deter future criminal actions, and preserve Waen's business. Additional funds will go towards replacing stolen hardware necessary for running a business (e.g. POS systems, tablet, and cash register).
Waen is no stranger to adversity and has carried on in spite of hardships, always choosing to see the brighter side of things and supporting (feeding!) our community without fail. Let's work together to exceed our goals and help keep Monterey Pizza alive and business going!

Thank you for your support and good vibes. Please contribute what you can to support this community institution and place of good eats that has persevered even during the toughest of times! And even if you can't donate, your good wishes and patronage will still support this local, small business. Let's help keep the spirit alive, because what goes around certainly comes around! ❤️
