Help for my mum to have treatment
I am reaching out to anyone who can help my dad with the costs for my mum to have stem cell treatment, for her brain injury and stroke.
Stem cell treatment is Where a high dose of stem cells would be inserted into the brain to replace lost neuron’s and restore neural tissue structure.
This will help with her pain and also her speech.
Reaching out like this is really hard for me to do, but nowhere near as hard as it is for my dad and what he has been through.
My dad has had to give up work to be my mums full time carer.
My mum was my rock.
She was fit as a fiddle always helping everyone with anything, there wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do, diy, painting, cleaning, gardening, sewing etc, she always kept busy with her family and friends, working and babysitting her 5 grandchildren, She was always so positive & would cheer everyone up.
Then on Friday 13th April 2018 as she was walking up to bed she lost her footing and fell backwards down the stairs, she was unconscious in a ball at the bottom.
My dad and my mum's brother called an ambulance who worked on her for an hour outside before taking her to king’s college hospital.
My mum was put into a coma, she had broken her neck, her arm and damaged the tendons in her leg but worst of all was her head, she had to have part of her skull removed (craniotomy) to take the pressure off her brain, if they didn't do this she would of died, but they said by doing this she would be brain damaged.
She was in a coma for a month and they said if she does come out of it she would not walk, talk or be able to swallow.
Eventually she started to wake up and came out of the coma, she didn’t know who any of us were, this was really hard on us all, she wasn’t herself, she couldn’t speak as she had a tracheostomy fitted in her throat.
My dad was at the hospital with her all day everyday, and often took her home for a few hours to re-jog her memory.
Finally, after 4 long months my mum came home and with a lot of patience and determination my dad got her out of her wheelchair and walking (although she is still quite unsteady) & and she soon started to remember us.
It hasn't been easy as she has had a few set backs along the way including fits and a left brain stroke, so she has aphasia and paralysis on the right hand side of her body.
A year and a half later my mum had her head made whole again with a metal plate (cranioplasty) as she had a no bone flap on her head for so long, she couldn't wait.
She can not talk properly due to the aphasia so we struggle to understand what she wants, but my dad is so patient (as hard as it is) and tries he’s best.
We want to help her get this treatment so she can sit down without being in pain, as currently when she sits down her right side causes a lot of pain,so she has to stand and wander a lot, also with this treatment she will regain some speech as she only has a few words in her vocabulary at the minute.
My dad has been her rock throughout this whole process and has certainly proved the doctors wrong with her original diagnosis
He has worked all of his life since he was 15, So to see him have to give up his livelihood has been a testing time for us as a family both financially and mentally. If my mum had this treatment it would really take the strain off my dad a lot.
Thank you for taking the time to read my page I would love if you could share share share please.
