Help for my Mom after surviving horrific car accident

Hello all!

Yesterday, my beautiful mother was involved in a horrible accident. Her brakes failed at the top of a hill- at which point her car flew through an intersection, flipped over train tracks, and landed in a river. She was extricated from her vehicle in the water by all of the amazing rescue workers, at which point she was airlifted to the hospital. She amazingly has no life threatening injuries or head trauma (which is a miracle in itself given the state of the vehicle), but does have multiple spinal fractures. We are so grateful she made it out alive, and that no one else was injured. My mother is one of the most sensitive, caring, and resilient people I know- and the thought of losing her yesterday has shaken all of the people who love her so dearly to our core.

My mother was recently put on SSI due to prior disability and complications from cancer treatment. She cares full time for my precious 15 year old sister. Upon receiving SSI, her health care was cut until she qualifies for Medicare two years after her approval date- so she is currently uninsured. We will be working with the social workers to see what recourse there is, but are going to need all of the help we can get. I am not one to ask for help, and know first hand how hard it is to survive and make ends meet during these trying times. So this is incredibly difficult to do. My wife and I are out of state, and in the middle of fertility treatment to start our own family. So we will not be able to be there for the full course of her recovery. We are headed there tomorrow for the week to figure everything out. My little sister will be able to stay with my Grandma, who lives in the same town as them- and we will be traveling back and forth the 8hrs as this unfolds to figure out how to make this work. A small percentage of what's received will go towards expenses to travel back and forth, and supplement any lost wages on our part. The majority will be towards my Mom's medical bills, and organizing transportation towards the litany of follow-up care that she is going to need (as my Grandma doesn't drive), as well as organizing for food for them.

This is extremely difficult and devastating, in spite of the relief that she made it out alive. Especially with us being out of state, and limited in how much we can support and go back and forth.

Like I said, it pains me to ask for help when I know what a struggle it is for all of us. But this one is much more than we can handle alone. We appreciate anything anyone can do, as well as all the prayers you can manage. We hope we will be able to one day return this act of goodwill we are asking for to someone else in need.
