Help for My Mother, Diagnosed with Metastatic Cancer

A Story of Hope and a Failing System
My mother, 60 years old, was diagnosed in August with an aggressive metastatic cancer affecting the bile ducts and the portal venous system. It was a diagnosis that caught us by surprise and threw us into a whirlwind of emotions and desperate attempts to find help.
After two weeks of investigations and consultations at various hospitals in Romania, we were told that there were no more options. All the doctors sent her home, without a solution, without alternatives.
We refused to accept this answer and, with immense sacrifices, left for Istanbul, where we finally found support and solutions. She underwent complex procedures, such as radioembolization, and is now undergoing immunotherapy, which gives her a chance at life. However, to continue the fight, doctors told us she urgently needs a liver transplant, a procedure that could save her life. This is truly her last chance.
For three months, we have been struggling to cover the costs of all these treatments, trips, medication, and various interventions. Our resources have been completely exhausted. The time has come when we need to ask for help, as this life-saving transplant is beyond anything we could have imagined financially.
I share my mother's story not only to seek support but also to show how hard it is to find real help in a system that should be there for its people. In a country where she worked for 35 years as a high school teacher, continuously contributing to the state and believing that she would receive help when needed, we encountered a system that, despite being supported by everyone who contributes, fails us completely in times of greatest need. Even the GoFundMe page had to be created in Canada by a close relative because I cannot make one in Romania.
Now, the only help we can find is through good-hearted people and your solidarity. Every contribution is a hope for us, a chance at life for my mother. We are deeply grateful for any support and for each kind thought that brings us closer to achieving this transplant. Thank you for choosing to be part of this fight for life and for showing us that, even though the system has failed, people can still make a difference.
