Help for Officer Ryan McElhenney

Recently, within our department, one of our very own brothers, Officer Ryan
McElhenney, has not been able to work
since November of 2020, due to being
diagnosed with Retinal Vasculitis of both eyes, Neovascularization of Retina
bilateral, Vitreous hemorrhages, and
Peripheral visual field defect bilateral. In other words, there is blood pooling in his eyes which is impairing his vision.

Officer McElhenney sees a specialist in Mobile, has been to a ophthalmologist in Birmingham for a second opinion, and one in Miami for a third opinion. To this
date, no remedy has been found, and his eyes are continuing to get worse.

He has ran out of all accumulated time
with the Mobile Police Department, and  is currently receiving help from other
officers who’re generous enough to
donate time to him.

All of this was unexpected and
unfortunately it has had a huge impact on his career, which means his health
insurance may not cover his expenses
very much longer. Please consider
