Help for Oladapo Adu... stranded during COVID!
On March 20th, International Master Oladapo Adu had just competed in the African 4.2 Zonal Individual Chess Championships in Sierra Leone., placing 2nd. On March 22nd, his Freetown to Lagos, Nigeria flight was canceled, so he decided to go by road! He trekked (by bus, by foot, by motor bike) from Freetown to Monrovia, Liberia, and then to Abidjan, Ivory Coast. After crossing over to Ghana (in a canoe) he was stopped by Border Patrol with guns drawn.
The borders are closed due to the coronvirus lockdown, so the Ghanaian officials sent him back to the Ivory Coast. Since then, he has been stranded since March 24th. He has been unable to get a case number at the Nigerian Embassy and the West African countries may be closed until July 15th. He is currently staying in an unstable living arrangement with people whom he doesn't know.
He will require funds for more suitable accommodations (for 17 days), living expenses and transportation fees when the borders re-open. If you feel it is within your ability to donate during the , please do so.
