Financial Aid for Barb & John

Hello fellow Sylvan Lakers, and friends alike.

As some of you may or may not have heard, last week a very horrible coldhearted human being walked into our local Walmart filled a cart full of stuff and on the way out proceeded to bear mace a customer service staff member named Barb. Our wonderful Walmart greeter John came to her aid and while he was on the ground, the assailant sprayed him directly in his eyes, causing burns to his corneas. He has been off work since the incident and is really struggling with post traumatic stress disorder as well as the physical healing from the burns.

I have had the absolute pleasure of speaking with John and his wife Mabel. Not only is John the young age of 81, (which in my mind means he shouldn’t be working) He should be enjoying his golden years, but his wife Mabel is also battling cancer. Mabel let me know that she absolutely loves to cook and wants to continue to do so as long as she can until she is no longer physically able. Thus they do not eat out.

Any funds raised will be used for John & Mabel to get to and from medical appointments in Calgary, hotel stays for any treatments needed as well as aids to daily living. We all know the cost of living is ridiculous right now, especially for seniors. So they can use the money towards bills as well.

Barb will also be getting a portion of the donations to help her while she is off work.

My heart is so unbelievably full with the outpouring of support for John and Barb. Let’s show these wonderful folks that as a community we appreciate them so much!!
