Help for Perla

Perla is an amazing person who brings a smile to anyone she meets. Perla was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia on September 7th and had to stay in the hospital over a month and a half. After two chemotherapy treatments received in the hospital she went into remission. However, with it came heart complications that put her in Intensive care for a week as she ended up having fluid in her heart. Since she’s been out of the hospital, she has received two more chemotherapy treatments and has to get her blood checked three times a week to ensure her white/red blood cells and platelets are at a functioning level. If they are too low, she has to get multiple transfusions. This is all done to keep her in remission while awaiting a bone marrow transplant, which has been hard to find due to her ethnicity.
A bone marrow transplant is needed because her bone marrow produces the leukemia cells. Her family is not a match for her bone marrow and her son is a half match, but the antibodies are too high, therefore she runs a higher risk of her body rejecting his bone marrow.
Once a bone marrow donor is found for Perla, she will need to take months off from work and will need help to support herself, her two sons and the medical bills she will accumulate while she is under medical supervision. Perla won’t be able to work for months after the transplant, as the recovery requires an extensive stay at the hospital so the progress of her new bone marrow can be monitored.
I am asking you to join me in helping this woman who I am so proud to call my friend. Whatever you feel comfortable giving will make a difference, and will be gratefully appreciated. Thank you for your generosity.
