Help for Renovating school buildings in Uganda

Hello and thank you for taking the time to look at this fundraising cause. Way back in 2007 I spent a short time teaching in a couple of schools in rural Western Uganda. We raised some funds at that time that went towards rebuilding some of the classrooms - roofs, walls, benches for the kids etc in the village of Kabata, Fort Portal district. This was done through a small community tourism project led by a respected village elder, Tugume Emmanuel.

I have kept regular contact with Emmanuel and he has been informing me that times are really tough now, one of the major issues being a lack of finance for the upkeep of a number of the classrooms which need rehabilitation. Also due to the covid situation, teachers salaries have been reduced leading to retention issues.

Hence i am commencing a 120km walk along the Camino Ingles in late July 2021 to raise funds for both the rehabilitation of the school buildings and to assist those teachers in these challenging times. The Camino Ingles is one variants of the famous pilgrimage route of the Camino de Santiago in Spain; the route many of both English and Irish pilgrims took over the centuries, many of whom who left from my own home city of Waterford, Ireland.

I can attest that this local community project is of sound governance and all funds raised will make a really significant difference to the lives of the community and in particular the teachers and children in Kabata. Feel free to message me with any queries re any of this. If anyone does ever want to visit Uganda or volunteer with this project i can assure you a warm welcome from Emmanuel.

Whatever you can afford will make a difference, 5, 10, 20 euros. These will be gratefully accepted and i will post photos of the completed project.
