Help for Ryker and Family

Hello our names are Nick Wishard and Natashia Mumma. If you know us you should know that this is the hardest thing we are haven to do. Our son Ryker has had the worst 2.5 weeks of his life. On June 29th he woke up with a lump on the the right side of his neck which scared the living daylights out of us! We called the pediatrician and got an appointment as soon as we could that day. At his appointment we seen the doctor and was informed he thought it was just inflamed lymph node and that he would prescribe use some medication to be on the safe side. The next week we were headed to a monster truck show in North Carolina and to take the kids on a mini beach trip to try and do something as a family for the first time in a long time. While we were on the way down we noticed the lump was getting larger so we contacted our pediatrician and she informed us to get him to a hospital ASAP. So with that being said we found the closet children’s hospital that would look at him which landed us in Greenville, North Carolina he was in the ER for about 12 hrs then admitted for 4 days. While admitted this was the worst hospital experience in our lives but that story is for another day. Tashia spent the 4 days in the room with Ryker while I had our other three children in the parking lot of the hospital. Friday evening Tashia and I made the decision for me and the three kids to head to the show and meet up with Brandon so the kids could get out of the camper and try and have some fun until Ryker was released. At this point we had no idea when that was going to be. Thankfully the next he was released around 2 pm Saturday with the all clear to finish out our weekend even tho the lymph node was still enlarged they were hoping the liquid antibiotic would continue to fix this issue he had. As we came home we noticed the lump was starting to grow again and was starting to get really red and warm to the touch. Once we got home Monday evening we ditched the camper and rushed him to the Chambersburg ER. While in the ER they did a CT scan to try and look at the location. They were unable to do the scan with dye due to the IV being ripped out. But they were able to see some of the area. They eventually made the decision around 6am Tuesday morning that they were going to transfer him to Hershey ER. We arrived at Hershey ER around 10:30 Tuesday morning. After talks with the doctors they admitted him around 5:30 Tuesday evening. He since has had another CT scan this time with dye to be able see the area infected. Unfortunately after several days of antibiotics through his IV the decision was made Friday morning that surgery would need to be done to drain the infection out of his neck. He was in surgery for about an hour and half but thankfully made it through just was very very hungry being he hadn’t been able to eat for 14 hrs. They were however able to obtain a culture of the infection so the lab in the hospital was able to grow the bacteria and test it to find out exactly what the infection was. Since the surgery Friday he has had a drain in his neck and has been put on a new medication that is not as harsh on his a immune system and is directly for the type of infection he has. We have found out Sunday afternoon that the infection is a type of staph. We are currently still in the Hershey Children’s hospital as I type this Ryker is currently being stuck for the 20th time in this 2.5 week journey. Unfortunately at this time we have no clue when he is going to be released but we are both trying to keep our heads up but the looming weeks of being unpaid for both of us are starting to stress us both out. But some ppl have been asking for ways to help and asking if we had anything set up. We are not begging or asking for help from anyone and quit honestly we don’t expect it from anyone but anything at this point will help for our bills and food expenses since we have no choice but buying 2 to 3 meals a day for 2 ppl. We are unsure if his insurance is going to cover the stay in North Carolina we are hoping but haven’t heard anything yet. Thank you for taking the time to read this and for the continued prayers for our little boy. We appreciate anything and everything everyone has or is doing to help us and our son out it means a lot to our family.
