DOUGLAS SAVELA FAMILY – NATALIE’S WEDDING SHANNON SAVELA FAMILY PORTRAIT (before he and Jasmine divorced)
Brothers David and Shannon Savela of Sebeka, MN died within hours of each other on February 27, 2021. Parents, Douglas and Karen Savela of Sebeka, MN buried their beloved sons on March 17, 2021. This was an overwhelming and daunting task, especially as these “boys” were their only children. It was doubly heartbreaking as the final arrangements fell to Doug and Karen as their parents.
David, 42, never married. He was a self-taught computer wizard and also loved tinkering with cars. He was instrumental in helping a local nursing home become more computer-efficient. He also had a home-based computer repair business. In his early years, David was a drummer for the Shades of Tyme. Music flowed from his fingertips. He would often tap out the beat running through his head on the nearest surface. David was a helpful and loving uncle to Shannon’s children. It is no wonder they adored him; he gave them his time, the most precious commodity someone can give to another.
Shannon, 36, worked various jobs until he found his calling in auto mechanics. He had a successful business (SS Garage) in Sebeka, MN until the garage was robbed of vital equipment and inventory last year. He lived and breathed that business, working well past quitting time to get a job done on time. Shannon had acquired a total of 123 auto mechanic certifications, including those in electrical and cooling. He had also become certified for DOT inspections. People from miles around sought Shannon’s auto repair shop because of his expertise, his honesty and his fair prices. In the later years, he also got in to car sales and amateur auto racing.
But Shannon’s priority was his children, whom he dearly loved. He was divorced but never once hesitated to be a hands-on dad. Sadly, he leaves behind a young daughter, two teenaged sons and two teenaged (step)daughters.
At this writing, circumstances leading up to the events of February 27th are still under investigation. The brothers’ deaths have left his family and friends devasted. And, they can’t help but question why an alleged traffic violation ended so tragically.
As the aunt of these two men, whom I still consider “boys,” I know they were decent, hard-working men, who only wanted what we all want: to make an honest living, time with their loved ones and to be treated fairly. We have all lost so much: the family of their loved ones, and the Sebeka area for the expertise and skills of two of their own. Thank you for your donation. The family appreciates it so much.
