Help for SD Legend Dr. William Tayari Howard

Hello everyone,

As many of you know, in July 2022, my father, Dr. William Tayari Howard was diagnosed with Glioblastoma (GBM) brain tumor. After undergoing immediate surgery to remove the tumor, he also suffered a stroke and had to spend over a month rehabilitating. During the entire month of September, my father received radiation and he is currently receiving chemotherapy. This cancer is aggressive and inflicts devastation upon the brain, which controls cognition, mood, behavior, and every function of every organ and body part. Glioblastoma is also one of the more expensive cancers to treat, often leaving patients and families with major financial hardship on top of the burdens of the disease.

As a family, we are happy to see he has regained some strength and he has been handling treatment, and physical and occupational therapy extremely well. My mom is taking care of him as much as she is physically able to but she is also a caregiver for other family members as well as she works Mon-Fri for her employer. It is obvious we need more assistance and it has been an ongoing battle to receive in-home, caregiving assistance from various medical benefits.

We are hosting a "Music For Lovers" benefit for my father on October 22, 2022, at Bowlegged BBQ in San Diego. Anyone that lived in San Diego in the 80s-90s and listened to the only black radio station in the city, had to have enjoyed my father's iconic show. Those attending the benefit will receive a delicious BBQ meal, with the purchase of their ticket. Proceeds from this event will be allocated to hiring the caregiving services my father needs which will also provide some relief for my mother.
