Help For Shammy Rovers 2021
Hello Everyone,
as everyone knows the coaches and help up Sham have put so much time and effort into getting the youth sides going up sham. Often putting in over 20 hours a week coaching, pitch maintenance and other things to get the facilities in playing condition for the 75 kids who frequently play games or train with the club.
over the Covid period Danny and Sam decided along with Paul Hayes they were going to bring Shammy senior sides and make the club into something the whole community can get behind. Young and old. I can’t begin to tell you how much hardwork they’ve been putting in these last few weeks to get everything ready for not only the youthreturning on the 29th to see out there seasons and cup games but in anticipation of having at least 2 senior sides up here next year. Firstly the main issue has been the dogs mess on the pitch which is obviously not safe for anyone. To get around this they have put forward to the council about hand railing the perimeter of the pitch and this has been met with a really positive response, however the funding is just not there at present to do so. We have had lots of local business come forward and lots of offers of help which has been brilliant for everyone and a real morale boost. They are looking at a bill of £5000 just to get this to fruition. The second major issue was the dugout which the boys and friends have started to take down themselves which has already seen serious hours and hard work put in. The issue with the dugouts were that there was constantly smashed glass which would then go onto the pitch, obviously not all safe for the kids once they go back hence the decision to knock it down. This again occurs more cost with having to now try find funding for new dugouts that can be wheeled in and out of the lockout compound. This comes to the third big problem, last night was just one of the times people have broken in and smashed things up or even knocking down and breaking the fence panels which obviously cost the lads money out of there own pockets again. Then we have the issues of the main goal posts which have hadto be re welded again where someone had decided to swing on the crossbars making them again start to snap and become a real hazard. The nextissue is the mower which we are having to buy another one, when cutting the pitch before the last lockdown was lifted there had been an old trampoline left on the pitch. When clearing this andtaking to the tip we didn’t realise there were stillsprings under the grass, with one of them flicking up and smashing the whole bottom out. Then the last but not least the container where we lock away all training equipment, mower and other things floor has decided to snap and give way all of a sudden.
There really has been an amazing response from everyone since the boys released the news they were going to bring the club back to the community, to the area it has been so greatly appreciated over the years, it was actually described as a beacon of hope in uncertain times which personally I thought was a lovely statement and something I wholeheartedly agree with. A lot of the local community were wanting to donate and I was thinking of the best way we could do this and this was something I thought would be the easiest tool to do so on.
edit: Some of the boys that play for shammy youth have decided that they would like to do Some of the boys that play for shammy youth have decided that they would like to do something to help with funding for the club.
They’ve chosen to do 400,000 steps over the month of April. That works out to be something like 13,000 a day.
If anyone inside or outside of the club would like to join in with this please do as every little penny will be going towards helping the club for the community.
It can be done by tracking your walking or running or however you choose to have a go.
Beverley Powe, a parent of a player, has kindly made up some forms for sponsorship and counting steps.
