Help for Shaun Donnelly and his dog Sandy
Donation protected
This holiday season I became acquainted with Shaun Donnelly, a 55 year old homeless man and his dog Sandy (a super friendly pitbull). Shaun has been living on the streets of Los Angeles for some time and has no family in the region. When I first saw Shaun he was living in the parking structure of a Costco with his few meager possessions, having lost his tent to recent storms in LA. He wasn't asking anyone for help, he was just, in his words, "trying to survive." It was clear that what little he did have went to keeping Sandy happy and healthy. That first day I bought him dog food, socks and a few other items and spent time talking to him. Since then I have visited him in that location several times and help out as best I can. What Shaun needs more than anything at this point is a place to live where he can try to work from that location. It is nearly impossible for him to get into a shelter with Sandy and they are inseparable. He is on all sorts of waitlists for what services the city and county provide, but thus far he has received no assistance. He doesn't drink or do drugs, he's just a decent guy who has fallen on hard times like so many others. My goal here is to raise enough to get Shaun and Sandy an RV and defray the costs of maintaining it, licensing it and so on. Hopefully this would be an interim step to getting him into more permanent housing and a chance to reclaim his life. I realize Shaun is but one of thousands in similar straits, but something about this pair spurred me to try to help. I hope you will consider contributing and thank you for reading.
